This island was discovered by Captain Cook.
Later, it had been a place of exile from England at the latter part of the 18th century. After a place of exile was all-cleared, who lived persons descended from participants of well-known "Mutiny on the Bounty" in 1856.
Nowadays island is a tourist resort with a coral reef and beautiful sandy beach.
One of a histrical interest is the ruin called "Solt House" used for solt making.
